About Region 8

Grandmaster Shin

In 1968 Master Jae Chul Shin came to the United States of America as the US representative for the Korean Tang Soo Do Association. He formed the US Tang Soo Do Federation in Burlington, New Jersey in 1968. This traditional Korean martial art soon grew in popularity throughout the world. The organization reformed to fit new demands internationally. On November 13 and 14, 1982, a charter convention of the World Tang Soo Do Association (WTSDA) was held in Philadelphia, PA, USA.

World Tang Soo Do Association Mission:

The mission of the World Tang Soo Do Association is to deliver professional instruction in the traditional martial art of Tang Soo Do to a diverse, global population for the purpose of developing self-defense skills, promoting good health and inspiring a better personal outlook.

World Tang Soo Do Association: To be the world leader in providing the benefits of training in the traditional martial art of Tang Soo Do.

The WTSDA is organized into geographic regions to support regional activities that offer members opportunities to experience the camaraderie of our global family and enhance their training and development. Members benefit from personal growth through their Tang Soo Do training. Masters and instructors endeavor to share the strength and ideals of WTSDA within our communities.

Region 8 includes Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, central and eastern Pennsylvania, and Washington, DC area. When the region was established in 1982, there were 18 studios and clubs; today there are over 60 studios and clubs active within the region.
